May 22 Wine & Stars Santa Fe
So what do scientists, Saturn, and Cabernet have in common? Well if you were at Haak Winery on Friday night you would have gotten acquainted with all 3. Members from the Star Gazers from Galveston and the Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society brought out their telescopes and set them up near the vineyard. Guests, while sipping on some great Haak wines, strolled from one telescope to another to see those twinkling lights up in the sky.
Listen to Talk of the Bay, as we enjoy the evening with our star gazing friends. Look for this fun event to happen again in the fall. The Haaks serve up really good food to go along with the Wine and the Stars. Check out their site www.HaakWine.com and have a look at the fun (we apologize for not getting more photos, the flash was not welcomed)

We made this film in early 2005, filming from January to March. The shoot consisted of six days of filming. The premiere was on June 10th, 2005 in Galveston Texas.
This was my directorial debut, as well as my first go as writer and editor. For a first attempt I am very proud of this film and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I know that there are plenty of lighting, audio and other problems, but working on this film was a great learning experience.
Now, thanks to YouTube, I present this film to the public for the first time since it was made three years ago. I present this as a big and continuous thank you to the entire cast and crew, as well as everyone who helped out. It was a bumpy ride, but we made it through and you all helped me realize a dream for the first time!
Feel free to comment and rate, but please remember that this was my first film and was made when I was only 20, having almost no experience in filmmaking whatsoever. Enjoy!

HOUSTON – Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Galveston, with the istance of Coast Guard Buoy Tender Harry Claiborne, conducts a pollution response drill using the Vessel of Opportunity Skimming System (VOSS) in Galveston Bay, Texas.
The VOSS equipment uses a large strip of containment boom to collect oil into an area directly beside the ship, where a skimmer can be lowered to draw the oil into collection tanks on board.
The Coast Guard’s VOSS equipment is strategically pre-positioned at several locations across the country and may be transported to a spill site on a single truck or by Coast Guard C-130 aircraft. The mobile equipment is totally self-contained and capable of being used quickly and effectively aboard any available vessel.

GCVAA Great Way to Stay in Shape
Its also a lot of fun. GCVA stands for Gulf Coast Volleyball ociation. Its operated by Mike Miksich and Vic Clifford. They are set up to play on six regulation sand volleyball courts at the League City Sportsplex. They also run tournaments at Stewart Beach on Galveston Island and hold clinics for the youth. Mike and Vic run excellent and very affordable leagues. Sondra and I have been playing with them since they started the leagues in 1999 and credit them with helping me quit smoking (I traded my bowling ball in for a tank top and board shorts). The leagues are geared towards players with different skill levels and gender. The leagues run Monday Friday from 7-10pm with each team playing 4 games. Monday…Men’s/Women’s 2′s, Intermediate, Tuesday…Men’s/Women’s 2′s, Advanced, Wednesday…Coed 4′s, 2 Levels…Recreational and Intermediate, Thursday…Coed 2′s, 2 levels, Friday… Juniors Doubles League, Sunday Junior 3′s and Junior 2′s League
Additional information about the GCVA Leagues, the GCVA Beach Tournament Events and the GCVA Junior’s Indoor Program is available on the GCVA web site at www.gcva.net or by contacting us directly.
The leagues are very affordable and a lot of fun. New Leagues start every 6 to 8 weeks.
