We want to put up a tent right on the beach..but whats the laws? Do we need to stay at the state park, because I cant find any other camping sites down there that arent RV related. Not our kind of thing. We can also stay at surrounding beaches like Crystal Beach..Jamaica Beach…ETC Thanks yall!

The Bolivar Peninsula is where you want to go. There are over thirty miles of beach to camp on. You can drive on all of the beaches.

After the flashing light when you get off of the ferry(at Fisherman's Cove motel), go about a mile or so and you will find Rettilon Rd (nolitter backwards). Turn right. It takes you to the beach and a good area to camp.

One thing new is a County Beach Parking Permit. You can buy them at almost any store or real estate office on the Peninsula. It's only ten bucks. The sheriffs don't really enforce it unless you are creating trouble or they want to roust you. The permit is not needed for driving on the beach, just parking.

Campfires are allowed but not big bonfires. Don't camp in front of someone's beachhouse. It bugs them. Unless you really like to party, avoid the part of the beach in Crystal beach known as the "ZOO". Sheriffs work this area hard and there are a lot problems there. Remember, no glass containers and no beer after 2am.

Otherwise, just pick a spot, enjoy yourself and be sure to pick up your litter before you leave.

Really? Galveston Island State Park has tent camping, screened shelters, and RV-related camping. Me, I prefer the screened shelters because the smooth concrete floor is more comfortable than ground.

I should have a direct answer for you, because I live in Galveston, but I really don't. What I can tell you is that I see tents up and down the beach all the time. I don't see police arresting them, so I'm going to assume it's legal. But, I don't know that for sure. You can try this site to see if you can find more specific information for each beach: http://galveston.citysearch.com/yellowpages/directory/Galveston_TX/150/457/page1.html

Good luck, and sorry I can't be more specific.

I have camped on the beach before in Galveston… in a tent. I honestly don't remember the location but I know we took 61st street to the seawall and took a right on the seawall… then drove a good bit before we got to this bridge. Then we camped next to the water by the bridge. There were a few people down there. It was fun. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hope you find something.

Go to Crystal Beach on Bolivar. You can drive and camp on the beach there. The beaches are better over there in my opinion. Have fun!!

EDIT: I almost forgot. Fort Travis, across the Highway from the Lighthouse near the ferry landing has Cabanas for overnight rental and you are also allowed to camp overnight. There may be a small fee for camping, just check at the small office as you come into the park. Good thing is they have bathrooms there.
