Galveston in October?
I’m not able to get to Galveston this year during the summer. Going to be there the first week in October.

Staying at an Air Force Condo by the beach. Can’t remember exact location and AF site down for maintenance.

A few questions:

#1 – I know it will be cool, but is it super cold during that time?

#2 – Is it easy to find sea shells/sea glass on the beaches of Galveston? Does anyone know a great place to get shells and sea glass?

#3 – Any must go places? Any great shops (specific places) to get shells?

Super excited.

Thanks for your time!

1 – The average weather the first week in October is lows in the mid 50′s and highs in the low to mid 90′s so it’s great beach weather!

#2 – It is NOT easy to find sea shells on the beaches. Sorry, but we hardly have any, at least good ones. They are mostly small broken pieces or if you find a whole one it’s tiny or the plain jane white standard shaped shell. Nothing cool

#3 – I’d make sure to eat at Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant on the seawall and make sure you visit the Strand for shopping and such. If you come on the first Saturday of a month make sure to catch the outdoor movie in the Strand. I can’t offer much advise on where to buy sea shells either but most of the shops have some (I highly doubt they are local shells).

I’ve added some links for you.

October should be a nice time to be in Galveston. Be sure to drive around and visit the Tree Sculptures that were carved by a couple artists on the tree stumps that were left from Hurricane Ike. These are on people’s properties. Here is a link: http://www.galveston.com/treesculptures/trees/

    1. No we live in Texas :P Its going to be Alright weather just about 75-85 degrees
#2. It depends on the beach. Theres a beach by a resraunt called Woodys, Dont go there all of their shells are broken into tiny piece i went there recently and the shells are horrible! But i found a hermit crab :) Go to stewart beach it might not be too crowded.
#3. I would go on the "Duck" Its the Boat/Car it drives from the sandy road into the beach water. Oh! and you should go on those 8 person bikes where you can pedal and steer there really fun! There all over galveston shops that are near the beach so you should spot one.

Even in winter months It is rare to get below freezing. I guess in October around upper 60′s F. Take a ferry to pelican island. They do not clean the beaches, except for trash, so There will be more chances of finding shells. Since the hurricane there are few stores open yet.
