Also,we do not care to stay in Galveston in a hotel.Where nearby besides Houston is a good town to stay in?

Guidos or Landry’s at Pier 21 (I think)

Stay in Kemah or Galveston. Not sure why you don’t want to stay in Galveston. There are inexpensive hotels, places like the Holiday Inn, and amazing hotels like Moody Gardens and Tremont House where you’ll be pampered.

Hy
Im a student and for my bachelor thesis im planning to go to galveston texas. So my question is, how much do I need to calculate for living and all that? I hardly didnt find any info about that?
pls help me

First off find out where your going to live their an apartment, house, on campus, etc. after that find out how much it’ll cost a month. Then figure up how much you’ll need for food, gas, clothing, personal activities. This should give you a good idea how much you’ll need in a month!

Also, I need to know if the park is open on Sundays.

Here’s the deal: I’m planning in going to Schlitterbahn either in Galveston, TX or New Braunfels,TX from July 29th-31st. I’ve heard that the parks are a little different. I want to go to whichever one is better, obviously. And I don’t know if it will be open that Sunday or not.

I’d love to hear from somebody who’s been to both.

I don’t know if the park is open on Sundays, but I can tell you about the parks.

New Braunfels: consists of 3 separate parks that you take a tram to get to. The main part of it is called "The Original Schlitterbahn" which consists of mostly river rapid rides and uses spring-fed water channeled in directly from the Comal River. The water here is brownish, but it’s fresh water. However, standing in the pool I couldn’t see my feet three feet below me because the water was so murky. There aren’t many slides there. There are 4 really good slides at the other two water parks and those use chlorinated water.

Galveston: much smaller, but also much cleaner. It’s smaller and easier to navigate. There’s only one river rapids ride besides the lazy river, but there are several fun slides there, and since it’s smaller you’ll be able to get around quicker and finish more rides. Personally, I prefer Galveston. Also, there are lots of things to do around the city.

I used to take EZ cruise Connection from Dallas to Galveston when I go on a cruise. They were great, but it seems as though they went out of business.

Would like to move near the Galveston or Baytown Tx area but don’t want hurricane blowing my house away or get flooded every few years. How close can I get and be reasonably safe.

Galveston-idk
Baytown-just move east to chambers county west of the river (not east of it).
I live in Beach City Tx, unless you live water front you are at an elevation of up to 20 feet & safe from surge. safest neighborhoods in the area:

-anything north of FM 565 & anything west of FM 2354/3180 are definitely safe.
-most of Plantation -Cotton Lake Estates
-Most of Gou Hole -RWJ Airpark/Airport
-Katie’s Creek -Most of The Barrow Pointe area
-Falcons Pointe -most of North Pointe
-Eagle Heights -most of bay Place
-Cole’s Crossing

all neighborhoods listereceived recived little Ike water damage
at most the 10-15 homes directly waterfront.

*you cannot escape the wind only the water*
*do not expect a sandy beach of any kind in the Beach City-Cove-Mont Belvieu-Old River area*
*Galveston is a 45 minute drive that many residents make on a weekly basis during summer*

My husband and I am thinking of taking a last minute trip to Galveston, so I was wondering what the best beach for beachcombing, laying out and swimming would be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions on restaurants in the area you suggest? Places to stay?

Best place to stay? There are so many hotels on the island & any hotel on Seawall Blvd from about 61 street & east will be directly on the beach. Galveston’s hotels: http://www.galveston.com/islandhotels/

restaurants( http://www.galveston.com/cuisine/ ),…
Rainforest Cafe (seafood)
Fishtales (seafood)
The Spot (burgers)
The Mediterranean Chef (greek)
many other great restruants will either be found on Post Office Street or Seawall Blvd.

You really can’t say there’s a best free beach, but the best pay beach is Stewart, it offers the most services (restrooms, vending, & stuff like that).

I know there is a firework ban in Harris county, What about Galveston and the surrounding counties?

Montgomery County is the only other full ban county I can find but there’s still 3-4 days before fireworks go on sale giving all counties a window to approve a ban.

Some counties are not really saying if they are or not, for example Chambers county was having a meeting a 2pm today to discuss it but there are no online records of the outcome of the meeting so residents are in the dark.

The best way to find out is probably your county’s website:

http://www.co.galveston.tx.us/

(the site, as of my answer’s posting time, only had restrictions, not a full ban)
