I need some help on an essay i’m writing for Texas History.
1] Reasons on: How is Galveston important to the development of Texas?
2] Historical Significance of Galveston?
Thanks in advance!
Prior to the 1900 Storm, Galveston was the largest city in Texas. It was also an important port city. Galveston history is truly unique, from cannabalistic Indians, to pirates, to socialites. But, it’s far too involved to answer it in this question. Try looking here to start your search: http://www.galveston.com/history/.

I am looking to take a cruise this year. Trying to decide if it’s worth driving to Galveston – I think closest port, or flying to Florida? Please anyone with some advice, let me know… Also is it worth taking a 5 day cruise in May over a 7 day in September?? Thanks for any advice…
Looking to travel in May, more thank likely so looking at a 3-5 day cruise… New Orleans/Mobile/Charleston are all closer to drive than Galveston, so flying may be a better option… In Central Illinois so hard to find good flights out… Almost looks like worth flying to Miami or something…
Not really sure where you are located but Chicago is about 4 hours closer to New Orleans than Galveston. Either way you are talking 15-19 hours driving (not including stopping for gas, food, the night). That is just far too long in a car for my peace of mind. I’d fly.
I think if you are debating 5 days vs 7 days, we’d need more info. What destinations are you thinking about? What cruise line and what ship? A newer ship is better than an older ship. I would go with a 7 day personally b/c I like the more islands and that is the right amount of time for me. Plus September is a wonderful month. Perfect temperatures.
True it is hurricane season but I wouldn’t be too concerned about that. The cruise line bypasses any islands due to weather. My last cruise we ran around 2 of them. Buy trip insurance just in case it gets canceled but that is very rare.
