I am an American and live close to the port of Galveston where cruise ships such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean depart from. I’m interested in working on a cruise ship and I’ll take just about any job but I’m having a hard time finding out how I can apply. I applied through RC’s direct website but that’s the only place I’ve been able to find job listings. I clicked the link for hiring partners and it said there were no job recruiters anywhere in the US!! That can’t be true? Does anybody have any advice?

Being American does not exclude you from getting a job – many of the crew are foreigners because they are willing to work for less money. NCL America does hire mostly Americans, but NCL international hires anyone, including Americans.

RC uses an agency, cast-a-way.com – I’ve recently been interviewed by the agency, it’s all legit.

Go directly to each cruise line’s website. You will find jobs, employment, careers, or something like that (usually at the bottom of the home page) where you can get an email address to send your resume to.

The larger companies are:
Royal Caribbean – royalcaribbean.com
Princess – princess.com
P & O UK – pocruises.com
Carnival – carnival.com
Norwegian Cruise Lines – ncl.com
Holland America – hollandamerica.com

The smaller companies are:
P & O Australia – pocruises.com.au
Costa – costacruise.com
Silversea – silversea.com (longer cruises on smaller ships)
Cunard – cunard.com
MSC – msccruisesusa.com

Have a look at the websites. Good luck :o )

We can’t get a good response to what the port charges are for a cruise. We’re looking at a Carnival cruise out of Galveston TX to the Caribbean.

There are extreme variations by port and the price is usually included in the ticket price. On a trip to Hawaii we had to miss a port due to weather and only received about $3.50 credit for the port charge.

We departed out of Galveston on the Ecstasy with Carnival Cruise Lines on Monday "after the President stated that we are advised not to travel to Mexico." So we called Carnival (as late as 2pm the day we boarded and asked if all was going to be as planned and they said the Captain of our ship has been advised and that we were STILL going to our port of calls. We get on the ship and no communications are made except the Captain is in meetings and will advise us shortly. 2 days into the cruise we are in the Gulf going to nowhere. We made no stops and still no communications except that they were going to refund our port of call fees $40….wooo wooooo! One couple on the ship MISSED their daughter’s wedding!!! They were meeting her in Cozumel!!

So, have you heard the sayings.. "A CRUISE TO NOWHERE"?? That is exactly what cruise we where on. We came back a day early(Which is SUSPICIOUS, WE were told there was a medical emergency but the Ship DESTINY ALSO had to come back a day early??? Two medical emergencies??? RIGHT! (NO WAY!) Do they think we are THAT stupid!!! So anyway… duty free shopping, casinos etc closed. 1/2 the people on the ship got off so no parties…just a lame show, the clubs etc were empty. Basically we paid for a 5 day cruise WITH port calls and got a 4 day cruise with no port calls. The moral on the ship was totally different that the first cruise we took in 2006. It affected not only the cruisers but the staff as well…they were overworked due to having everyone on the ship the entire time. So FUN SHIP? I don’t think they quite pulled it off this cruise. (I do want to thank the staff who tried to do their best considering they were dealing with very unhappy customers!)

Hello Carnival…ever hear of the internet? People have a way of sharing information no so at least BE HONEST!

What should we do or what can we do to get our money back? There was talk of Class Action Law Suits etc. Anyone with info please post here or email me. They should compensate in some way. They should have been honest with us from day one and gave us a choice of getting on the cruise to NO WHERE or getting a refund or let us reschedule for a later date…instead they took our money and basically held us hostage for 4 days.

Here is a number I called and got to file a complaint but they said I had to wait until Monday. Everyone on that cruise should call…1 800 227 6482 ext 70024

Unless they make this right …this will be the last carnival cruise I make.
(

My husband and I were also aboard the Carnival Ecstasy that departed April 27,2009. We were married on April 26th and this was to be our honeymoon and first cruise. The night before I checked to make sure we were still going to Mexico and we were told yes. The morning of 4/27 an enlaw called and was told that even if we did not go to Mexico we would definatly port somewhere.

The first day aboard there were speculations because people were told different things when they called Carnival prior to boarding. The morning of day 2 the Captain’s spokesperson informs us that they are looking for a port for us to visit and there will be an update by 5pm. We go about our daily activity thinking all is well. After 5 pm the Captain gives us all of the nautical configurations including the swelling before telling us they are still looking. The Captain’s reception is held at 5 on night 2 for early dinner goers and in poor taste the Captain did not show. At around 8:08pm the announcement is made that we will not be visiting any ports. To add insult to injury they announced they would refund $40 per person for port charges. I don’t know about anyone else but we paid $238 in port charges.

Why didn’t they just take us back to Galveston? Being on the water for 5 days was brutal. The Ecstasy is not a huge vessel so by day 3 we had seen everything. Many of us wondered around or stayed in our cabins watching the movie of the day over and over. Everytime an announcement was made everyone would stop whatever they were doing to see if there had been a change.

We went to the debarkation talk in the Blue Sapphire lounge at 1:00 on Friday and was told about a medical emergency and that we would be headed home early and would be updated at 4:15 about being able to disembark that night. When he said we could leave the ship early at the rescheduled disembarkation talk I cried. Not because I was going to miss anything but because it hit me that they were not going to do anything for us. It was all over.
We live 5 hours from the pier and my husband was so angry about the whole trip we still left that evening as did many. We got home after 4am on Saturday.

As we were leaving out stateroom our attendant jokingly asked if we wanted to stay and go to Jamaica and we said no we are going home tonight. Little did we know that the passengers set to leave Saturday for Progresso/Cozumel were being rerouted to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, recieved 2 extra days and a $250 onboard credit.

I also went to Carnival’s website and found that if the passengers did not like the new itinerary they could get a full refund in the form of a credit to be used on a future cruise upto a year from now. What the heck?
I called my travel agent to see if Carnival had contacted them about compensating any of their clients and she said "no". She did give me their fax number and said that we should all complain and make sure to put it in writing. The number she gave me is (305) 406-4718.

My husband and I were also interviewed by channel 11 news here in the DFW area but so far the story has been bumbed due to the Cowboys practice facility collasping yesterday. However that will not stop me from continuing to fight for compensation.
We will never have the week of 4/27/2009 back but Carnival is going to make this right for all of us.

And as for "palmrafan" missing one port because of unforseen weather is one thing but when you are well aware of the issue beforehand and lie to the passengers that is something totally opposite. If we would have ported in the Florida Keys we would have been happy. Pertaining to the sick person if she had had a heartack or something of that nature she would have been airlifted or the Coast Guard would have meet the vessel whereever it was at sea and would have gotten her swift medical attention. Waiting over 10 hours is not prompt nor life saving.
Finally, my husband and I as did others did purchase the CSA insurance which many of us would have tried to use if we would have been told the truth in the begining. We have posted this to try to find those that were aboard the vessel to try to get something out of our vacations. Your vain attempt at demeaning or downplaying the experience we encountered in not productive to our cause and offered nothing to the question.
