My finance and I are getting married November 21. We are going to Galveston for a week for our honeymoon. I was wondering if the weather is usually good enough for hanging out at the beach and/or swimming in the ocean??

It depends on whether there’s a front moving through. If it’s calm, it can be pleasant–cool temps and little wind. I’d say way too cold for swimming, unless you’re from Wisconsin or something. :) But, if a front is coming/has just come, it’ll be windy as hell and downright cold. Makes for good beachcombing because the north wind pushes the water out, but you really don’t want to be lounging on the beach or swimming. Congrats on the upcoming wedding, and enjoy your honeymoon, whatever you decide to do. There are plenty "non-beachy" activities to do in Galveston, and that time of year, you don’t have to fight off too many tourists to do them.

I love to cruise. I’ve sailed the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas and both Disney Ship’s multiple times. I relocated 6 months ago and a friend from back home is coming to visit. I was going to surprise her and treat her to the 5 night cruise from Galveston. This will be her first cruise. We want a fun and relaxing getaway..no husbands..no kids, etc OR we could just shop. Only thing about that is my husband will be home but the kids won’t and I don’t want her to feel like a third wheel since her’s will be back home.

The Galleria is nice. It’s my favorite mall in Houston. But if I had to pick the Galleria or a Cruise, I’d definitly take the cruise. I’m going on one out of Galveston in May. :)

my family and i wanted to do something fun for the summer, and we thought that a cruise would be fun! but i cannot seem to find the right cruise. if you have any ideas on an ideal ship for us, please give a web link and information about it. Here is what we are looking for: 5-8 days, for kids and adults, departs at galveston tx, and the budget willl be less than 1,000 or a little bit over if possible. THANK YOU! "any ship is okay"
over $1,000 is okay but must be less than $1,900

A carnival cruise would be perfect for your family. They have a fantastic children’s program, and it is a very family-generated cruise line. You will have to check their site at www.carnival.com for intineraries for future cruises. Good luck!

My husband and I own an electrical business. He was told they are looking for electricians and such to help rebuild there. How do I find more information on this?

Consult the Small Business Administration(SBA) office in that area.

Are there Carribean cruises that leave from Galveston, TX? What is a good website to find one? How much does it cost? Ports of call?

Carnival Cruise line’s Ecstacy does 4 and 5 day cruises from Galveston and Carnival’s Conquest does 7 day cruises from there. In addition Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas (a great ship) does 7 day cruises out of Galveston.

Here’s a link to the port’s web site with all of the information you need, including the cruise calendar for the year.:

All my searches just turn up lots of apartment complexes with bad reviews. Someone on yahoo answers mentioned looking for a garage apartment or carriage house at one of the nice historic homes in the east end near UTMB or the strand… There have also got to be rent houses in the same area and I am having trouble finding listings for anything but weekly beach rentals and apartments. Any help or suggestions appreciated. School starts the end of August!

I would try Galveston craigslist under apt/housing. There are several locators on the island as well that deal with rentals such as apartmentsgalveston.com that have lots of rental options.
