I need help on hw…how many miles is it form galveston to s.padre island?

409 miles, according to Google Maps. You can probably shave a few miles off by adjusting your route.

It’s not Interstate highway, so expect slower going as well.

I’m looking for a cheap passenger ship that isn’t a cruse ship. Anything!

Some freight ships will take on a few passengers. The accommodations are usually spartan and the trip is slow, but it’s one option. There are several companies that ship out of Galveston.

I’ve noticed no coverage of the deaths and have also noticed the inability to get any aerial images. I’ve heard that bodies may be floating and the devastation is being covered up. Does anyone know about this?

Avomatic and others -

There isn’t "plenty of media coverage".

Research it a little, the media is not being allowed into certain areas. Bolivar Peninsula, Crystal Beach and parts of Galveston are off limits. In addition, those who go into the restricted area (rescue workers, etc) are having their cameras confiscated.

Governor Perry is being pressed on why reporters are being denied access to disaster areas. Rumors are starting to leak out that the death toll is going to go much higher than the current number.

I will be visiting Corpus Christi and Galveston in late September and earily October and want to do some pier fishing. What would be the best piers open to the public in each city? Any tips on species of fish and techniques would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

For fishing Corpus Christi Bay head toward the Pier at Indian Point. If you are downtown take the highway that heads towards the Lexington aircraft carrier. That road (Texas Hwy 35) will take you to Indian Point. Just look to the right at the edge of the Bay. Catch yourself a skipjack (Lady Fish) and cut it into chunks. REDFISH CANDY.

I’m looking for a place where I can go fish of the shore and have a camp fire on a beach either in Galveston Beach or in Texas City. There will be a group of 15-20 of us and we are doing this overnight (Midnight fishing and crabbing). Open for any suggestions!

For both fishing and crabbing, I would suggest either the Texas City Dike or Rollover Pass on the Bolivar Peninsula. As long as it a small campfire, I think you are okay.
Both places have bait camps but the ones at Rollover close for the night unless they are busy.
If you want to be on a beachfront, seriously consider the Bolivar Peninsula. 32 Miles of beaches you can drive on and campfires are definitely allowed.
