GCVAA Great Way to Stay in Shape

Its also a lot of fun. GCVA stands for Gulf Coast Volleyball ociation. Its operated by Mike Miksich and Vic Clifford. They are set up to play on six regulation sand volleyball courts at the League City Sportsplex. They also run tournaments at Stewart Beach on Galveston Island and hold clinics for the youth. Mike and Vic run excellent and very affordable leagues. Sondra and I have been playing with them since they started the leagues in 1999 and credit them with helping me quit smoking (I traded my bowling ball in for a tank top and board shorts). The leagues are geared towards players with different skill levels and gender. The leagues run Monday Friday from 7-10pm with each team playing 4 games. Monday…Men’s/Women’s 2′s, Intermediate, Tuesday…Men’s/Women’s 2′s, Advanced, Wednesday…Coed 4′s, 2 Levels…Recreational and Intermediate, Thursday…Coed 2′s, 2 levels, Friday… Juniors Doubles League, Sunday Junior 3′s and Junior 2′s League

Additional information about the GCVA Leagues, the GCVA Beach Tournament Events and the GCVA Junior’s Indoor Program is available on the GCVA web site at www.gcva.net or by contacting us directly.

The leagues are very affordable and a lot of fun. New Leagues start every 6 to 8 weeks.

These are photos of the best ghost towns and graveyards I’ve seen over the past few years: Chinese Camp, CA, Bodie, CA, Rhyolite, NV (Death Valley), The Pirate Jean Lafitte’s home, the Galveston, TX graveyard and the forgotten graveyard next to downtown Houston. Also, the audio is Weaver001 A Step Aside.

1.) Main Street in Chinese Camp, CA 2009 – Chinese Camp is the site of the first Tong War in America.

2.) Bodie, CA 2009 – Once, the most violent town in America.

3.) Rhyolite, NV (Death Valley) 2008 – The industrialist Charles M. Schwab’s dream town.

4.) The Pirate Jean Lafitte’s Home, Galveston, TX, 2008 – All that remains of his amazing “Maison Rouge”.

5.) Galveston Graveyard, 2007

6.) The Forgotten Graveyard, 2008 – Downtown Houston

Every year people continue to build the Galveston Bay area back-up, despite beliefs that another hurricane will just come and destroy it a year later… Why do people keep coming back?

The same reason a lot of coastal dwellers do: Living along the coastline makes them happy. These are the types of people that might work along or near the Gulf of Mexico, do shipping, or for tourism stuff.

Even if the beaches aren’t always that wonderful, the city is pretty nice to visit, and there’s a lot of Victorian era structures, and even some popular tourists attractions like Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn Galveston. Like I said, these are coastal dwellers that love this life.

If development is properly planned, flood plains are drawn out accurately, the West End was not getting over built, buildings and structures are hurricane proof to the highest factor, and people are actually well aware and informed of the risk of damages from hurricanes, then there really shouldn’t be any worries.

Unfortunately, real life is not like that, but eventually laws will get passed, developers will get smarter, and citizens will be more informed in the case another big hurricane arrives.
