My favorites:
1. Austin, Texas: nice folks, hill country, funky vibe, great weather
2. Galveston, Texas: nice folks, lots of history, close to Houston
3. Foley, Alabama: nice folks, nice beaches
4. Nashville, Tennessee: cosmpolitan yet laid-back, thriving job market, great restaurants
5. Casper, Wyoming: really fresh air!
Least favorite:
1. Louisville, Kentucky: nasty city, rude people, city leaders are terribly indecisive
2. Barbourville, Kentucky: dumpy town, people aren't welcoming to "outsiders," terrible drug problem
3. Detroit, Michigan: grimy, crime-infested
4. Orlando, Florida: too many yankee transplants
I have lived in the USA,Canada,Australia, and Greece…love all countries in a different way. They all had something different, yet wonderful to offer to my life!!

Has anyone been on the Carnival Cruise line ship “Conquest”…trip out of Galveston. Any suggestions, recommendations, complaints??
Thanks.
Yes, we were on the Conquest out of Galveston 3 years ago and loved it. Of all the cruises we’ve been on, the Conquest has the best Lido Deck. I think it’s the cruise line’s flagship. The Conquest rocks.

I live in houston and a lot of models predict that it will be hitting Galveston. What do you think/ what did you find out?
If it stays on the same path we will not get a direct hit but we are on the dirty side of the storm which means alot of wind and rain and bad weather.

I am thinking of heading down towards Galveston or Port Arnasas to ride atvs with some friends. I heard there are some sand dunes around Port Arnasas. Does anyone know where and if it is ok legally to ride atvs there?? Thanks
Thanks kak
Personally dont know exactly where they're located but when I was there the police didn't harass us. Thats the best I can do for you.

Hi. I have been in Houston for a while and I am wondering where the decent black men are? I know that they exist but all of the ones I know are married already. The single ones I have met so far were complete disappointments. Please don’t mention church, bookstores, the skybar, other clubs, etc. I’ve already heard those things and men in church are usually married. I am referring to respectable, attractive, at least, somewhat educated men who have something going for themselves. As in not living off his mother, homeboy, or baby mama on the side type of guy and having his own vehicle. Healthy men who are drug free & in their late twenties and thirties withOUT criminal records, gold teeth, or a history of using & abusing women. Men who believe in monogamous relationships and marriage. I am only asking for someone who matches me, that is all. Since, I know they exist are there any black women out there who can give me a suggestion of where I can go in this area and meet quality men. If you are a married sister in the Houston/Galveston area can you at least tell me where you met your husband? …I am not trying to be negative but almost every black woman I know who is married to a decent man seems to have ended up with a man who was originally from somewhere else. It just seems like there are too many women who tolerate a lot of BS off men in this area such as sharing and fighting over them while they get away with whatever they want. I hope I’m wrong so…let a girl know the deal.
I did clearly say where in Houston, TX. So lil' kiddies with sarcastic answers, step off.
Good luck in your search. When you find some let me know as well.

My son hates to wear a tie / jacket . Will he be able to attend the Captains Dinner wearing only a nice pair of slacks and shirt since the attire is formal ??? I have heard that this cruise leaving out of galveston going to playa Del Carmen is mostly Texans and pretty laid back, that is why I am asking if anyone has taken this cruise and attended the Dinner.
How old is your son? Sure a cute toddler can get by without formal wear. Cruises are fair and you'll see a wide range of people's interpretation of "formal". It is meant to be a dressy evening. Not in the mood for dressy, don't go. Just because the cruise originates in Texas does not mean the captain's dinner will be a country BBQ.

I'm going to be attending at UTMB soon, and I've never been to Galveston before. is the Galveston trolley as good and dependable as Houston metro rail?
Hi, welcome to UTMB and Galveston. No, the trolley is pathetically slow. It's really just there for tourists to take pictures. It barely goes anywhere. It does run from UTMB to downtown, but it goes so slowly and stops at all lights and stop signs, so you can really just walk there faster. Plus, it'll just stop running for a few weeks without notice. Your best bet is to get a bicycle. Try to find a house or an apartment near UTMB's campus (there are plenty to choose from, so no worries there), and then bike everywhere. Downtown is about a 5 minute bike ride max from UTMB. The beach is 5 minutes max. There are enough stores/restaurants in the general vicinity that you'll ride your bike most places. To go to larger stores and supermarkets, you'll probably want to drive. But, even then, they're really not that far. I live just a couple of minutes from UTMB and I walk everywhere. Galveston is great that way, because everything's really close. I might fill up my car every 4-6 weeks or so.
Again, welcome to Galveston. I think you'll like the place. Anymore questions just ask away!

Hi, I would like to cruise from Galveston with my boyfriend. He is currently holding a H1-B visa from India. I think our ports are limited to Cozumel, and/or Progreso, Mexico. What other documentation does he need for the cruise aside from his passport from India?
His U.S., visa makes no difference when he traves to any other country. He does NOT need a visa for Mexico unless staying more than 24 hrs . If you will be staying more than 24 hrs, he can get a tourist card at the port or from the travel agent ahead of time. If it is just a day trip for a few hrs, then right back on the ship…no visa is needed. See site below and read the 3rd paragraph up from the bottom.
