Me and my husband want to take a trip. Galveston was our first pick but there seems to be no really upscale place to stay. It will be a one week stay. No kids, no pets….we just want a first class trip. A hotel with a spa would be nice, something beach front is preferable. And also any good ideas for site seeing would be appreciative.

I would like to leave out of Galveston,TX.I have gone on Royal Caribbean and love it.Are other ships just as good?It is hard to beat them!
It depends upon what you want to do and who you want to sail with. Some cruises are geared towards couples, some to families, some to older people, some to all-women, some to all gay…etc….so it's important you get a profile of the travelers if you choose to leave a cruise line you like. Likewise, some cruises have far less on-board "activities" than others…and of course, more or less fewer port stops. It's hard to beat RC for activities.
Look at this article on "how to compare cruise ships".

and enjoy!

i am planning on going to galveston during thanksgiving weekend, i have two children, 7 and 8. i am a single mom, so price is an issue. what are some fun and cheap things to do. also, what would be the best beach for us to just hang out on, and build sandcastles. i dont know the area, so any help is appreciated.
Magic Carpet Golf is pretty fun, Boardwalks and shopping, rainforest cafe has a log ride and carnival games and the Holiday Inn & Sunspree Resort is really nice and cheap (has a cool pool too :] )

we are planning our wedding for may of '08. so we have a ways to go. we are dead set on getting a boat out in kemah or galveston. i've been to one wedding on a smaller boat a LONG time ago and remember it being pretty nice. have you had or been to a wedding on a boat. pros and cons?
also, you've been to those weddings that are VERY formal, uptight and uncomfortable. you couldnt wait to leave. i DO want a nice wedding, but i want it to be fun. i'm trying to find wedding dresses for this kind of occasion. ideas? any good web sites you can throw my way would be awesome!
i also have a very large tattoo on my arm that i need to try and hide. problem is, i HATE the way wedding dresses look with sleeves. i'll have to suck it up obviously….but ideas or good websites for these kinda dresses?
Could you be more specific about the tat? Is it a full sleeve or just a single tat – bicep or ? That would help.
www.latterdaybride.com has a lot of dresses with sleeves – "modest" dresses, they call them. You could always look at a dress with a removable jacket & later take it off at the reception, etc. Look also at the "vintage" dresses on these sites: http://www.vintagestyleclothing.com/

or the "sexy" ones at http://www.sensuousbride.com/
I went to one 'wedding cruise" in Newport Beach – it was very nice! To be honest, I don't remember what she wore, though!
These folks look like they do a good job – http://www.majesticventures.com/index2.html
Congrats & happy planning!

We are about to go on a cruise that ports in Galveston but will need to kill some time…does anyone know of any places near the airports that has activities we can do while waiting…we get there early morning and ship doesn't leave till 4!!
I wouldn't go to the Seawall, as there is not a whole lot to do (Schlitterbahn not withstanding) except eat at crappy fast food fish places. Go to the Strand district. That's where the historical buildings (mostly Victorian era) can be found (I'm not including the mansions). Lots of fun shopping, too. I suggest the Strand because it is a few blocks from where the cruise ships dock.

More to do in Galveston. Plus, interesting history (1900 hurricane), magnificent old homes open to public, The Strand, and Col. Bubbie's (you'll know when you get there…lol). I vote Galveston!
