BlueCharts by Garmin. Bluechart cartography is GARMIN’s exclusive marine cartography. It complements GARMIN’s line of handheld mapping products and marine chartplotters. These detailed electronic nautical charts look just like paper charts when displayed on your GARMIN chartplotter. Descriptive details for features typically found on nautical charts can easily be viewed with a simple key press. Cursor movements over the chart provide descriptions for contour depths, chart number, navaid name, and much more. BlueChart data will include shaded depth contours, inter-tidal zones, spot soundings, wrecks, navaids, port plans, restricted areas, cable areas, anchorages, and more. Additionally, BlueCharts include information from the paper chart used in the digitization process such as chart number, name, scale, revision date, and Notice-to-Mariners date. We want to put up a tent right on the beach..but whats the laws? Do we need to stay at the state park, because I cant find any other camping sites down there that arent RV related. Not our kind of thing. We can also stay at surrounding beaches like Crystal Beach..Jamaica Beach…ETC Thanks yall!
The Bolivar Peninsula is where you want to go. There are over thirty miles of beach to camp on. You can drive on all of the beaches.
After the flashing light when you get off of the ferry(at Fisherman's Cove motel), go about a mile or so and you will find Rettilon Rd (nolitter backwards). Turn right. It takes you to the beach and a good area to camp.
One thing new is a County Beach Parking Permit. You can buy them at almost any store or real estate office on the Peninsula. It's only ten bucks. The sheriffs don't really enforce it unless you are creating trouble or they want to roust you. The permit is not needed for driving on the beach, just parking.
Campfires are allowed but not big bonfires. Don't camp in front of someone's beachhouse. It bugs them. Unless you really like to party, avoid the part of the beach in Crystal beach known as the "ZOO". Sheriffs work this area hard and there are a lot problems there. Remember, no glass containers and no beer after 2am.
Otherwise, just pick a spot, enjoy yourself and be sure to pick up your litter before you leave.

Due to all the destruction and devastation in Galveston we do not want to cruise with Carnival out of Galveston. However, Carnival has not cancelled the cruise which departs on Sep. 21. As a result, a Carnival representative informed us that we would forfeit our $3,000 if we cancel. Also, the insurance which we purchased would not cover us either. I think this is unethical that Carnival is still planning on sailing a cruise ship out of Galveston if the port is safe.
My daughter and her husband were booked for a Carnival cruise out of Galveston that was supposed to leave Sept 14, the day after the hurricane. I posted a similar question as yours here a few days ago. There is no way a cruise can leave from Galveston at this time. The island is basically a total loss. It’s devastating and you can’t even get in. My daughter was told the very same thing. They never even canceled that cruise! I couldn’t believe it. They didn’t purchase cruise insurance, either, because they had no plans to cancel their trip. And really, they assumed that in the event of a hurricane, the cruise line would cancel the cruise without hesitation and of course, refund their money. But that hasn’t happened. So I agree with you. I don’t think this is right at all.

I find the beach at Galveston very hard to walk on. Looking for a beach that is most like Jamaica but in Texas.
The first person who answered this question obviously hasn't been to Galveston in a long time. I recently went down there a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time! The city has cleaned up the beaches. They have been bringing in sand from Florida and have set up very nice rental lounge chairs/umbrellas all across the coast. Yes the water may not be crystal clear/blue, but it is the Gulf after all, so you can't change the color. The water is clean though. They are also raking the beaches where the rentals are to try and control the seaweed that comes in. Galveston is also one of the oldest cities in Texas and has a lot of really cool historical buildings and sites to visit. So obviously my choice is Galveston. Don't knock it until you try it!
